Information on postal voting for the Basque and Galician parliamentary elections to be held on 12 July 2020.

    You can request an application form at any Correos office or complete one on the website of the Electoral Registration Office and then print the necessary number of copies and take them to an office.

    Voters who have applied to vote by post can check the status of the sending of the documentation at the electronic headquarters of the Electoral Census Office by providing their ID (National Identity Document or passport) and date of birth.

Deadlines for postal voting

From 19 May to 2 July

  • Postal vote application.

From 22 June to 5 July

  • The Electoral Census Office sends the documentation, which will be delivered to the voter by Correos before the deadline for voting on 10 July (before 2 p.m.).

  • Voters will send their postal votes.

Information on electoral legislation

  1. Applying for a postal vote at a Correos office
    • Postal vote application forms will be available to voters at post offices throughout Spain.

    • Complete the official postal vote application form and take it to any Correos office.

    • The voter must show his or her DNI (a copy of a DNI renewal in progress form is not valid), driving licence or passport to verify his or her identity and signature.

    • Presentation of expired documents will be accepted, but they must be originals, and under no circumstances photocopies.

  2. Delivery of electoral information
    • The necessary voting information will be sent to voters by registered mail.

    • The information will always be delivered personally to the applicant at the address indicated on the application form.

    • After two failed delivery attempts at the address provided, notification of arrival will be left at the address so that the applicant can collect the item from the post office indicated.

  3. Sending the vote
    • The voter must take the envelope addressed to the polling station containing the certificates of registration on the electoral roll and voting, including the ballot paper, to any post office in Spain.

    • Alternatively, if they so desire, the voter has the option of delivering the envelope addressed to the polling station containing the certificate of registration in the electoral census and the certificate of voting, which will include the ballot paper, to the postal worker at the time they receive their electoral documentation at home, in exchange for a receipt certifying the submission of the vote.

    • The envelope will be processed free of charge as registered express mail at any post office in Spain.

  4. Persons with functional diversity
    • All persons with disabilities who are over 18 years of age may exercise their right to vote actively, consciously, freely and voluntarily, whatever their form of communicating and with the means of support required.

  5. In case of illness or disability that prevents the personal formulation of the voting application
    • The voter must prove the illness or disability by means of an official medical certificate that will be included with the postal vote application form.

    • This application may be made on behalf of the voter by a notary- or consular-authorised person.

    • Each voter can only be represented by one authorised person and each authorised person can only represent one voter.

    • Correos employee will collect the information presented by the representative and send it to the Electoral Registration Office.

  • Voters will be sent postal voting information by the Electoral Registration Office.

Information on electoral legislation

  1. Postal vote application
    • The application can be collected at Consular Offices or through the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation (

    • The voter must be registered in the Consulate Registration Register as a non-resident. If you are not registered, you can do so at the time you collect your postal vote application form or when you return it after completion.

    • The completed application form must be submitted in person to the Consular Office or Embassy Consular Section, which will send it to the appropriate Provincial Electoral Registration Office.

  2. Delivery of electoral information
    • The Provincial Electoral Registration Office will send the necessary information by registered mail to the foreign address indicated by the voter on the application form to enable them to cast their vote.

  3. Sending the postal vote
    • Once the information has been received, voters must send their vote to the polling station by registered express mail.
